I think the most important skill that a person should learn is swimming. Here are some of the benefits of being an accomplished swimmer.
Swimming is probably the best way to tone up. It works just about every muscle, it’s low impact, it’s good cardio, and it’s enjoyable. If you have an interest in taking up swimming, I suggest you turn that interest into a reality. The best workout regimen is the one that you enjoy and will actually do. It’s hard to stay committed to something you don't like, but this is seldom a problem when learning how to swim.
Swimming also builds tenacity and endurance. When I started, I couldn't swim across the short end of the indoor pool. So, I just swam a little and rested a little each day. I made notes of my achievements and committed to building on previous benchmarks until I could swim 1/4 mile nonstop.
